Talk to Copilot: voice conversation on mobile
What if you talked to Copilot like a real personal assistant? Voice conversation, grounded in your work data and the web, makes your exchanges simpler, faster and more natural. Here's how to start it, how to dialogue well, and 4 concrete scenarios to get going.
✅ How to
- 1Talk to Copilot, simplyWork with AI the way that suits you best: multimodal capabilities make your workflows simpler, faster and more intuitive. On mobile, but also on the web and desktop, you can talk to Copilot like a personal assistant, through a natural voice conversation grounded in your work data and the web. See for yourself, it's clearer in video (sound is off by default, turn it on with the player icon):
- 2On which devices?Voice conversation is gradually rolling out on web, iOS, Android, Windows and Mac. In other words: whether you're on your phone during your commute or at your desk, voice follows you everywhere.
- 3How to start a voice conversation➞ In the input box, click the voice conversation icon (to the right of the microphone), as shown below. ➞ On Windows, if the Microsoft 365 Copilot app is installed, you can also start voice from quick view, with the Copilot key or the Win+C shortcut. ➞ Speak with Copilot: at any time you can cut in while it's talking, change topic or ask a follow-up question. ➞ To mute or end, use Mute/Pause or End voice chat. Copilot then stops listening.

- 4The right way to dialogueTalking to Copilot is like talking to a colleague: no need for perfect sentences. Three reflexes are enough: ➞ Start with a precise question, then build on it to do something useful. For example: « What's my next meeting? Help me prep for it. » or « What's the mail from X about? Draft a reply. » ➞ Stay natural: you can cut in while Copilot is talking, ask it to clarify, or move on to something else. It adjusts right away, just like a real conversation. ➞ One limit to know: for now, voice is for asking questions and getting answers. It does not yet trigger actions like scheduling a meeting, sending an email or generating an image. For that, switch back to the keyboard.
- 5Scenario 1: prepare for a customer meetingChain your questions naturally, like on a phone call: ➞ « Do I have any urgent customer topics to handle this week? » ➞ « When is my next meeting with customer X? » ➞ « What are their most recent public announcements? » And if Copilot says too much, just cut in: « Stop, just give me the headlines. » It stops right there and gets to the point. In real life, it sounds like: « Hey Copilot, any urgent topics about project X for me?... got it... and when am I meeting this customer again?... thanks... and what did they announce recently? Just the main points. »
- 6Scenario 2: prepare for my day➞ « When's my next meeting about project X? Confirm the agenda and attendee list from my calendar. » ➞ « Remind me of the important open items from the last meeting on this project. » In real life: « Hey Copilot... uh... when's my next meeting about project X?... and what's the agenda, who was invited again... give me a quick recap of what we said last time... thanks, got it... and the topics we didn't finish? »
- 7Scenario 3: help me prepare to speak up➞ « Copilot, when's my next meeting with my leadership team? » ➞ « Help me prepare: write a roughly 90-second opening on this week's notable announcements around generative AI in the office space. » If it runs long, rein it in: « Stop, sum it up in 3 sentences. » In real life: « Copilot, when's my next leadership meeting?... I need to add an opening about recent AI trends, give me a quick rundown... got it, thanks. »
- 8Scenario 4: think out loud and create content➞ « Copilot, note my thoughts on our AI marketing and partner strategy, then turn them into a plan with three possible options. » ➞ Then, along the way: « Also add details from my recent meetings on this topic. » In real life: « Hey Copilot, I'm going to think out loud for a couple of minutes on our AI partner strategy. Capture the essence and turn it into a clear email, with next steps, that I can share. Ok?... (and then you just talk freely) »
- 9What to rememberVoice is Copilot hands-free: perfect to prep a meeting while walking, review your day or capture an idea out loud. Start with a precise question, stay natural, cut in without hesitation. And for actions (send, schedule, generate), switch back to the keyboard. A real personal assistant, in your pocket.
